FGBU «VGNKI» AND THE INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE SOLUTIONS (ICARS) SIGN AN AGREEMENT ON SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL COOPERATION

On September 28, 2021 the The Russian State Center for Animal Feed and Drug Standardization and Quality (FGBU«VGNKI») subordinated to the Rosselkhoznadzor, and the International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS) signed an agreement on scientific and technical cooperation.

The document was signed by Leonid Kish, Director of FGBU «VGNKI», and Per Henriksen, Chief Consultant of ICARS.

The event was also attended by Deputy Directors of FGBU «VGNKI» Danil Rudnyaev and Vasilina Gritsyuk, Jens Ebbesen, Veterinary Director of the Danish Council for Agriculture and Food, Jan Smith, Minister-Advisor for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries of the Royal Danish Embassy in Moscow.

The Director of FGBU "VGNKI" is sure that the signing of the agreement will allow to establish effective cooperation between organizations, and experts of the institution will be able to participate in research at the international level.

«Joint activities with ICARS will help not only the Rosselkhoznadzor, but also the veterinary services of other countries to more effectively implement measures aimed at preventing and limiting the spread of antimicrobial resistance,» emphasized Leonid Kish.

According to the document, the scientific centers will jointly conduct research, develop and promote new methods. Employees of the organizations will be able to exchange scientific and professional knowledge, take part in symposia and conferences, publish articles on the results of joint research, and regularly improve their qualifications.

Leonid Kish noted that the institution is currently monitoring the spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria in different regions of the Russian Federation. This work covers all groups of microorganisms recommended by the OIE, the main groups of antimicrobial agents used in veterinary medicine, and various types of test material (both food products and environmental objects).

As part of the National Action Plan to Implement the Antimicrobial Resistance Prevention Strategy until 2024, a set of methods for confirmatory (based on mass spectrometry) and screening (immunochemical) determination of almost all major groups of antimicrobial drugs used in veterinary medicine has been developed. A national collection of antibiotic-resistant microbial strains has been created and is being updated.

At present, scientists of FGBU «VGNKI» are developing a program to prevent the emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria and are preparing proposals for the National Plan, taking into account the recommendations of the OIE.
