«VGNKI» held a press conference summarizing its work in 2024

On February 26, 2025, «The Russian State Center for Animal Feed and Drug Standardization and Quality» («VGNKI» of Rosselkhoznadzor) held a press conference on the results of the Center's work for 2024 at the press center of the media group «Russia Today».

Evgeny Antonov, the Director of the Center, spoke about the main areas of activity of «VGNKI», presented the results of scientific research, laboratory monitoring, and control inspections, and underscored the Center's role in the certification of veterinary and agricultural products.

The main research areas of «VGNKI» are inextricably linked to the development of methods for the identification of the residual contents of harmful substances in products of animal origin, as well as to the improvement of quality control of vaccines, veterinary pharmaceutical products, and feeds. Evgeny Antonov highlighted that the rapid growth of the chemical and pharmaceutical industries demands continuous updates to analytical methods, and the Center's work in this area is carried out on a systematic basis

In addition, particular focus was placed on the activities carried out by the «VGNKI» Veterinary Center. Evgeny Antonov noted that the Veterinary Center performs the full range of functions for the preparation of veterinary accompanying documents for the export of animals, including the issuance of the certificate for rabies virus antibodies The Veterinary Center is also actively expanding the range of laboratory diagnostic tests provided, as well as the services of the resuscitation and intensive care unit, dentistry, and ultrasound diagnostics.

Vasilina Gritsiuk, the Deputy Director of «VGNKI», dedicated her speech to the current issues of quality control and state registration of veterinary medicinal products within the territory of the Russian Federation. She presented analytical data on the research conducted by the Center, market trends, and the impact of legislative changes on the process of introducing products into the civilian market.

During the speech, it was noted that new legislative provisions aimed at strengthening the control over the quality of veterinary medicinal products had come into force since September 2023. In 2024, as part of these measures, the «VGNKI» Testing Center conducted research on more than 900 products intended for agricultural animals, poultry, fish, and pets, which is twice the figures of 2023. The number of pharmaceutical products checked increased 4 times, from 160 to 634 items, and the number of immunobiological products studied increased from 256 to 272

Vasilina Gritsiuk also emphasized that 2024 was marked by an increase in the state registration of new veterinary medicinal products, as their number has increased by 42% compared to the previous year. Particular attention was given to the process of import substitution: domestic manufacturers increased the production of new products, which allowed a number of foreign counterparts to be replaced

Particular focus was placed on the growing variety of veterinary drugs, including those used for anesthesia, sedation, and therapies for parasitic and heart diseases, and the development of unique domestically manufactured medicinal products with no international counterparts. These advancements help address shortages and ensure veterinarians have access to high-quality affordable medicinal products.

During the event, Alexey Tretyakov, the Deputy Director of «VGNKI», presented the results of scientific projects carried out in 2024. In his speech, he discussed the applied and fundamental research aimed at improving the quality and safety of products, as well as new methods developed by the Institute for monitoring of veterinary medicinal products, feeds, and food products.
