SUBORDINATE TO ROSSELKHOZNADZOR VGNKI FOUND 150 DISCONFORMITIES IN IMPORTED FEEDS AND FEED ADDITIVES

Since the beginning of 2025, The All-Russian State Center for Quality and Standardization of Veterinary Drugs and Feed has been running assessment test of feeds and feed additives on the compliance with the requirements of the regulatory documents and performance claims.

In the period from January 8 to August 22, specialists of the Center conducted more than 2,8 thousand tests of more than 1,3 thousand samples of both domestic and foreign feed products.

The audit was conducted within the ambit of a state assignment, upon request of cargo proprietors, as well as for the purpose of the enforced laboratory control.

The test results of 150 samples of goods manufactured abroad show various disconformities ranging from the discrepancies in raw material composition to disconformities in the contents of vitamins, amino acids and microelements.

The French products proved to be the most illustrative. Pig and chicken DNA content that were not specified on the label as well as disconformities in the quantity content of amino acids and vitamins were found in some feed additives for productive and non-productive animals. The disconformities in the mass fractions of lysine and vitamins B1 and C were found in 10 samples. Discrepancies in the enzyme activity of xylanase and beta-glucanase as well as in the quantity content of vitamins A, E, D3, proteins, fat, arsenic and lead were found in 67 samples of additives for the ensilage of cultures, for farm animals, poultry and pets.

Equally significant violations were found in the products from other countries.

Additives for pigs and poultry manufactured in Belgium proved to have discrepancies in the enzyme activity and in content of vitamin A and amino acids.

Products from Hungary had disconformities in the content of vitamin D3, while two samples from Denmark demonstrated a lead level exceeding the allowable limits and a decrease in proteolytic activity.

The German feeds for ornamental fish had disconformities in the content of mercury and quantitative composition of soybean GM.

The Italian additives for pigs, poultry and calves proved to have disconformities in the contents of choline chloride, methionine and organic acids, while one cat feed had disconformities in the raw material composition since the specified on the label pig DNA was not found.

There were disconformities found in some feed additives from the Netherlands. Samples of additives for farm animals and poultry contained discrepancies in the contents of the mass fraction of methanoic and ethanoic acids, while one sample of a feed additive had discrepancies in the T-2 toxin adsorption capacity. A sample of a feed additive for dogs contained pig DNA that was not specified on the label.

Additionally, specialists of VGNKI found a disconformity in aflatoxin B1 adsorption capacity in the British products for farm animals, and an additive from Slovenia had a disconformity in the contents of lactic acid and vitamin A. Horse DNA that was not specified by the manufacturer was found in a cat feed from Serbia which violates the requirements of GOST R 55984-2014 “Feeding stuffs for nonproductive animals. Marking”.

There are also products of Finland, India, Republic of Korea and Malaysia that have disconformities in the enzyme activity and acid content. Irregularities were also found in the Chinese additives for farm animals and pet treats, among which the unspecified pig and chicken DNA, disconformities in the content of amino acids and in the enzyme activity. A dog food from Argentina didn’t comply with the requirements for the quantitative composition of four GM soybean lines.

All the information regarding the test results was added to the “Vesta” and “Sirano” automated systems. The information about the findings was forwarded to the territorial administrations of Rosselkhoznadzor in order to take subsequent actions and withdraw the unsafe products from circulation.
