ACADEMICIAN OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES ALEXANDER PANIN PARTICIPATED IN THE II EURASIAN ECONOMIC FORUM

On May 25th, at the site of the Eurasian Economic Forum, the session themed “Veterinary well-being is a guarantee of food security” took place. The event was moderated by Yulia Melano, Adviser to the Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor and editor-in-chief of “Veterinary and Life”. The session was attended by leading scientists, industry experts and representatives of the Rosselkhoznadzor.

The forum coincided with the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council with the participation of the heads of state - members of the Eurasian Economic Union and observer states. The events were held within the framework of the chairmanship of the Russian Federation in the Eurasian Economic Union bodies in 2023.

During the session, participants discussed the issues of ensuring epizootic well-being on the territory of the EAEU countries, the use of specific prophylactic agents and therapeutic- prophylactic drugs for animals in order to maintain health and increase their productivity, antimicrobial resistance and rational use of antimicrobial chemotherapeutic drugs in veterinary medicine.

Advisor to the Director of the Russian State Center for Animal Feed and Drug Standardization and Quality (FGBU “VGNKI”), Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Panin devoted his report to the topic of antibiotic resistance and means of prevention and combating of infectious diseases in productive animals.

“More than 60% of human diseases are caused by animals, and each year an average of five more previously unknown human diseases emerge, most of which are zoonotic. Every year, due to infectious diseases, humanity loses about 20% of livestock products,” said Alexander Panin.
