FGBU VGNKI Experts Participated in Conference on Antibiotic Resistance within Framework of AGROS 2022 Exhibition

Members of Russian State Center for Animal Feed and Drug Standardization and Quality (FGBU VGNKI) took part in the conference "Antibiotic Resistance - a Growing Problem in Farm Animal Production" held by the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia on January 25, 2022.

The event took place in the Crocus Expo within the frameworks of the International exhibition of cattle breeding, breeding business and feed production AGROS 2022 with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation and industry associations.

The conference was attended by Polina Smyshlyaeva, Adviser to the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Irina Donnik, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vasilina Gritsyuk, Deputy Director of the FGBU VGNKI and the representatives of business in the agricultural sector.

Olga Evgenyevna Ivanova, Head of the Biotechnology Department of FGBU VGNKI, made a report on "Veterinary Monitoring of Antibiotic Resistance of Bacteria in the Russian Federation", which addressed the causes of antibiotic resistance, veterinary monitoring of bacteria isolated from raw materials and products of animal origin and from environmental objects, and the development of PCR techniques for detecting penicillin resistance genes.

The participants also got acquainted with the role of FGBU VGNKI in the implementation of the provisions of the national strategy:

- creation of a national collection of antibiotic-resistant microbial strains;

- The development of sets of methods for confirming (based on mass spectrometry) and screening (immunochemical) determination of almost all major groups of antimicrobial drugs used in veterinary, including those of particular importance for medicine.
